Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas Will Get a Major Makeover in Early 2016

In a press release issued October 9, 2015, Royal Caribbean International announced that Liberty of the Seas, which will home-ported in Galveston beginning November of this year, will undergo extensive renovations in February of 2016.

While in dry dock, the Liberty of the Seas will receive a new collection of waterslides called the “Perfect Storm” including a boomerang style slide that drops riders down a steep slide and then up a nearly vertical wall and into a free-fall. Two new racer slides will also be added to the collection.  The ship’s popular Flowrider surf simulator stays where it is on the Liberty of the Seas’ aft deck. Another addition will be a kids-only “Splashaway Bay” aqua park with water cannons, geysers, and more.

New dining venues to be added are Sabor, featuring modern Mexican cuisine, and Giovanni’s Table, with Italian classics served family style. Classic 1960’s style cocktails will be served up in the new R Bar. Continue reading

Galveston Celebrates 15 Years As A Year-Round Cruise Port

15years_smallThe Port of Galveston is celebrating 15 years as an active cruise port with year-round cruise departures.

According to a news announcement issued by the Port of Galveston, the current fifteen-year stretch of successful cruise activity began with the September 30th sailing of Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Celebration in 2000. Since then, more than seven million cruise passengers have traveled through the port. Continue reading
